Nepal is not just a land in the Himalayas. The southern part of the country is known as

The Terai, and it is a low lying land of subtropical forests. It is the home of elephants, tigers,

rhinoceros (the one-horned Indian rhino with the wrinkled skin), and several types of deer, wild boar, buffalo, monkeys, sloth bears, and leopards. The Terai is also the home to the Tharu, the indigenous people who still live in ethnic villages.

Jungle Safari is the most popular park in Nepal. It is a wild life sanctuary where a trek in

the jungle atop an elephant or in a safari vehicle allows tourists to see many of the aforementioned beasts in their natural habitat. There are fourteen national parks in Nepal, many of them easily accessible from major population centers like Katmandu or Pokhara.

Reserve also has similar activities to Jungle Safari.

No Jungle Safari itinerary would be complete without a visit to the Royal Bardia

National Park, relatively unexplored and the habitat of the Bengal Tiger. Tigers are endangered worldwide and this park is home to the largest number of these magnificent big cats. Bardia has populations of nineteen of the thirty-nine protected species in Nepal.Because of its eight types of eco-systems, Bardia is the hope for many of these animals. This park has played a major part in the survival of the tiger.

Bardia was established as a hunting reserve, but became a wildlife sanctuary in

1976.The natural home for a large number of mammals, reptiles and birds, this wildlife paradise is also a great place to study wildlife. The World Wildlife Fund and the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation have research and study projects in the Bardia. The monitor the wildlife breeding and pursuing forestry care policy in the protected areas.
